Here’s to the Heroes Today is a good day to celebrate a hero. Narayanan Krishnan, age 29, does what he was professionally trained to do – he’s a chef. He feeds people. But Krishnan does not do this in the swanky confines of a five-star hotel. Every day, he wakes up at 4 am, cooks a simple hot meal and then, along with his team, loads it in a van and travels about 200 km to feed the homeless in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.  Krishnan feeds almost 400 destitute people every day. And for those who need it, he provides a free haircut too. He was selected as one of the Top 10 in “CNN Heroes 2010” list. Eight years ago, this award-winning chef, with a five-star hotel chain, was all set to go to Switzerland for a high-profile posting. On a visit to a Madurai temple, he came across a homeless, old man desperate for food. That changed Krishnan’s life. Much to the dismay of his parents, Krishnan abandoned his career plans and decided to spend his life and his professional training to look after those who could not care for themselves. He has provided more than 1.2 million hot meals through his nonprofit organization, Akshaya Trust. He now hopes to extend this to shelter the homeless as well. What an incredible inspirational hero to set our perspective and sights for the week ahead. Fall Down 77 times, Stand Up 78 Adore or detest his politics, it doesn’t really matter for the point of this story. Ross Perot’s biography includes an incredibly inspiring sales story. According to Sam Wyle, Perot quickly became a top employee at IBM. In fact, one year he fulfilled his annual sales quota in a mere two weeks. Yet, when he tried to pitch his ideas to supervisors, he was largely ignored. This led him to leave IBM in 1962 to found Electronic Data Systems (EDS). To get the business going, he attempted to sell the products to large corporations for his data processing services. “Perot was refused seventy-seven times before he was given his first contract.” Sometimes it’s tough for agents to stay “in the game”. Prospecting gets tough when you are hearing a lot of “no’s”. Here’s a change of perspective for you:  Stop worrying about the yes’s and no’s. Focus on building the relationships. Connect with the people. When you do? The yes answers will take care of themselves.  Make it a great week! Something to Think About Never give up! Perseverance One of the most heart touching inspirational stories is the story of Bethany Hamilton. At the age of thirteen, surfing prodigy and native of Hawaii Bethany Hamilton lost her entire left arm after being attacked by a tiger shark just off the coast of Kauai. But while most would give up on their dreams, Bethany didn’t give up on her dream of becoming a professional surfer, she was back in the water and back on her board less than a month later after the incident. Now that’s called perseverance. Today, Hamilton is 23 years old and a professional surfer. Adversity didn’t sink Bethany – and it doesn’t have to sink anyone. For some, adversity is not an anchor – but a rocket-booster that strengthens resolve and allows people to push beyond limitations. We hope this week’s message strengthens your resolve and reminds you that every adversity has seeds of opportunity. Keep moving forward and plant those seeds. Make it a great week. And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection, you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart. Everything happens for a reason. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. This week, use this perspective to make the most of every day. Live in the present.
